Design of a low armchair that gets its comfort from used t-shirts.

The VOD chair is a chair that gets its comfort from used T-shirts. When a T-shirt is worn out and ready for the trash, cut it open just below the sleeves so that a nice seamless piece of fabric remains. You slide this over the back or seat of the chair. This way the chair grows with you. The older you get and the more worn-out shirts are, the more comfortable the chair becomes. A nice additional feature is that the appearance of the chair will change per layer and can therefore easily be adapted to the interior.

rethink

For the presentation during Dutch Design Week 21, I wanted to show a chair that gets its comfort from used textiles.

By showing and using the chair you make people aware of the need to think differently in both the clothing and furniture industries. That there is more possible with worn clothing than throwing it away.

This project fits in perfectly with the clothing industry that "must" destroy its clothing for whatever reason and now dumps its clothes as waste. This includes misprints and whether anything that needs to be destroyed to prevent damage to the brand's image. By cutting the shirts in such a way that the logos come off, most of the fabric can be reused without the need for any form of processing. In this way, a brand can use its "waste" sustainably and give it a new life.
